crielly 2017-08-31 21:00:14 no that's all in the database. @coderanger Tower really does nothing to help Ansible scale. Even a clustered deployment that takes jobs from a rabbit queue doesn't parallelize execution beyond a single node, it basically just round-robins job execution @mikea I personally see no downside to requiring outside tooling to handle monitoring and log aggregation - it certainly lowers the barrier to entry for config management when you can do that one piece at a time
mikea 2017-08-31 21:02:34 I am definitely not advocating using config management tools for monitoring
crielly 2017-08-31 21:02:37 the only real way to scale Ansible for parallel execution is the pull model which as has already been stated has its own issues
mikea 2017-08-31 21:02:49 But it was nice that the framework was there
coderanger 2017-08-31 21:03:11 @crielly My understanding is Tower isn't about scale, it's more to handle centralized management, bookkeeping and the like
crielly 2017-08-31 21:03:28 it is for sure. It does an okay job at that
gfoster 2017-08-31 21:03:31 only reason I have a tower instance is because my devs are confused by the command line sad, but true
crielly 2017-08-31 21:03:52 not to be judgey or anything but if a dev is confused by a command line, are they really a dev?
gfoster 2017-08-31 21:04:14 yeah well, I’m not going to go into that pit of despair :slightly_smiling_face:
crielly 2017-08-31 21:04:24 lol, roger
gfoster 2017-08-31 21:05:05 I even wrote a hubot integration so they can deploy to staging using hubot, because even though I have some templates that say THIS IS NOT THE ONE YOU WANT they use them anyway, then whine when they don’t work makes me long for a retreat to the BOFH days every now and hten
pwelling 2017-08-31 21:06:12 @gfoster _"confused by the command line"_ reads more like _"my devs don't want to learn anything new"_ amirite?
gfoster 2017-08-31 21:06:48 like I said, that’s not a battle I want to fight anymore. I fought it tooth and nail and lost. and got a rep for being cranky :slightly_smiling_face:

gfoster 2017-08-31 21:08:27 there comes a time when you just have to work with what you’ve got and try to make life a little easier for those around you and stop tilting at windmills
